CAMPERVAN-K: MOT Nightmare
Updated: May 27
Don't you just love the legal system here in the UK? In my day (!) you had to get the MOT done within two weeks of it failing. And that was your only choice. However, now, it's all changed.
All the while I've been driving (since 1983, in case you're wondering), I didn't know that it was possible to get an MOT done a MONTH IN ADVANCE of the actual comply-by date.
For the past several months, I've been searching around for a garage that would take my HT LWB (high-top, long wheel base) van in for an MOT. And I was beginning to panic!
Every trip to the shops I've taken, I've had to keep my eyes open for a MASSIVE garage.
Even when I enquired at the local QuickFit garage they said my camper was too big for them.
It's great if you're a mechanic and circle in those fields but, I'm not and this is all new to me. Plus, over the past few months, for some strange reason, me and mechanics have failed miserably.
I've had trouble with my little Citroen C4 - the little blighter recently failed its MOT.
I wouldn't have minded but, because they said it was the brakes, they wouldn't let me take it away from the garage. Brakes are quite important, don't you think? So, I was desperate to get them done. Normally, it's only like, only one or maybe two of them that fail or need repairing, but...
ALL FOUR OF THEM? All at the same time?
That job cost me almost a GRAND! Not good, considering I was expecting to pay only £175!
I consoled myself with the fact that, if nothing else, I had peace of mind that they would be done. But you know what? The following week the handbrake failed!
Because they advised me the tyres needed changing (ALL FOUR OF THEM AGAIN), rather than go back to that swindling garage, I got ATS to do them. But, the very next day one of them went flat!
You can imagine, my reluctance to let my camper go to a garage
I'm now having all kinds of scenarios swirling around inside my head at how much the camper is going to cost me!
All the best,
