BEWLEYBOOKS: The Kites and their Song

Metaphorical Tales...

The Kites and their Song

The Kites of old time had the privilege of beautiful song but, having heard the neigh of the horse, they were so enchanted with the sound that they tried to imitate it; and, in trying to neigh, they forgot how to sing.

Sometimes we forget the blessings we were born with.

The Lark and her Chicks

A Lark made her nest in the early spring on the young green wheat. Her brood had almost grown to their proper strength and gained the use of their wings with a full plumage of gorgeous feathers.

One day, one of her chicks came across the farmer, who was looking at his crops which were now quite ripe, and heard him say "The time has come for me to ask all my neighbours to help me with the harvest."

The chick returned home to its mother and relayed what he had heard. The mother Lark said "There is no need to move yet, for a man who sends to his friends for help with his harvest is not really in earnest."

A few days later, the farmer returned again and the young chick heard him say "I will come myself tomorrow with my labourers and will get the harvest in."

The chick returned to its mother and told her what he had heard. On hearing these words, the mother Lark said "My little ones, it is time now to move. For the man is in earnest this time, he no longer trusts to his friends, but will reap the harvest himself."

Self help is the best help.

In summary, as with all metaphorical stories, you take from it what is right for you. But, as I am sure you know, there is always a message underlining them. It took me a while to figure these out, but thought that you might like to read them too.
